7 Simple Tricks To Rolling With Your Jaguar Car Key Cover

Keyless Entry For Your Jaguar XK

Jaguar has left out this desirable feature of being able control the convertible roof's operation using the current key fob. It would be helpful to be able to do this, as it would help reduce wind buffeting while driving the XK.

If your Jaguar XF key fob is not functioning or has a range that has diminished it's time to replace the battery. Here's how you can do it.

Keyless Entry System

Consider upgrading to keyless entry on your Jaguar XE if you've ever spent just a few minutes searching in your pockets or purse to locate your keys before heading out the door. This feature provides a level of convenience and safety to your Jaguar vehicle that many people appreciate. The Jaguar key fob will detect when you are within range of your XE. With the key fob in close proximity and grabbing the door handle or pressing the release button on the luggage compartment will open the car.

Your Jaguar key fob has an electronic chip that enables it to communicate with the Jaguar's computer system and unlock the doors control the windows, open and close the sunroof and even remotely start your engine. The key fob comes with rubber seals to protect it from water damage. However, it's essential to remove it from the holder in order to clean any exposed electronic components with isopropyl or electronic cleaner and a paper towel. Submerging the key in salt water or soapy water can cause damage to the circuitry and may require a replacement key fob.

The Jaguar XK key fob also has the option of "double lock" your vehicle, providing additional security against theft. However, your Jaguar key fob could not function for a variety of reasons, including a dead coin battery inside the key fob or an unpaired key that requires changing the program by the dealer.

Transponder Chip Keys

Jaguar introduced a brand-new key in 1998. This key required specialized equipment to program. These keys come with a transponder chip inside which disables the car's standard immobiliser system. They need to be integrated into the Jaguar's database keys, which is usually performed by a dealer or locksmith. Contrary, not all locksmiths or dealers are prepared to handle this kind of key. In fact, some have been accused of charging excessive fees to Jaguar owners for their services.

Tibbe Keys

Certain Jaguars in the 1990s were equipped with what's known as a Tibbe Key. They require specialized equipment because they have flat cuts with precise angles on four different sides. They cannot be used interchangeably with regular keys, and a majority of locksmiths do not have the tools to cut them. This could result in lengthy wait times for people who require replacement keys. Dealerships may also be able to cut them but typically they cost a significant amount.

The lock is interesting. It is comprised of either six or eight rotary discs which need to be aligned for the sidebars to drop into place, allowing access to the door lock or trunk. This is accomplished by using a special decoder/pick that appears like a drill. It can be difficult. This tool should only be used for the DOOR lock and not the ignition or trunk lock.

There are a handful of locksmiths who are experts in Tibbe keys and their costs depend on a variety of factors like time and effort, the cost of consumables, equipment, etc. The adapter kit required to use these keys could cost hundreds of dollars. Each one must be programmed manually for each new key.

Key Fob Battery Replacement

It's crucial to have a spare battery available. If the key fob ceases responding to buttons or no longer responds to them, it's probably time to replace it.  The Key Lab  may also alert you that your battery is low.

It's easy to replace the battery in your Jaguar keyfob inside your garage. It only takes some minutes. The first step is to pry the fob's lid open using a flat head screwdriver or your fingernail. There are typically two seams where the fob's halves meet, and you are able to carefully pull them apart to expose the blade of emergency key.

Once the fob has been opened and you are able to slide the key blade backwards to take off the cover and reveal the old battery. It will look like tiny coins with the battery size and plus and minus symbol embossed on one side. Carefully insert a new battery of the same type, and make sure it's oriented correctly.

Remember to handle the new battery only from its sides; touching it from the bottom or top could transfer moisture and reduce the life of the battery. Reassemble the fob, and test the buttons on the remote to check if they work again. If not, contact your local Jaguar Annapolis service pros for additional assistance.
